Educational Philosophy

  • Classical education considers the whole person, including their worldview, habits, thought patterns, character, and culture. As a person grows up, they absorb their surroundings, not just the answers to test questions. Their education shapes who they are, and how they see the world and act within it.

Subjects are not taught in isolation, and the purpose of education is not to master a body of knowledge. Instead, it is to acquire universal tools of learning so the student will be equipped for a lifelong journey of acquiring knowledge. The well-trained mind can apply itself to any area of study but especially to the deep questions of the nature of God and eternal truth.

  • All truth and knowledge are rooted in the person of Jesus Christ. He is the embodiment of truth. We strive to teach all knowledge as an integrated whole, centered in Jesus Christ as He is revealed in the Bible. No subject is purely secular or separated from the truth of God. All subjects must correlate to every other subject because they all flow from the same source: the one true God. As a Christ-centered school, PCA teaches students so they will see how math, science, English, Latin, and even art all affect one another. Students are also consistently guided in what these subjects teach us about the person and nature of God.

  • In a university-style academy, the curriculum, lesson-planning, teaching, and grading are handled by the school, leaving parents free to participate in the most enjoyable part of education: co-teaching during the days when students are at home.

Students receive a top-quality classical education using the best curriculum and practices, and parents get the joy of facilitating learning without having to manage the entire educational process.

  • We use Memoria Press for all grade levels.

  • Starting in 3rd grade we teach latin.

A key aspect to the art of grammar, and indeed to classical education in general is the Latin phrase ad fontes. By studying and understanding the origins of words and definitions, this subtly teaches kids a valuable lesson–the notion of authority. Naturally in this study, children develop an answer for this question–Who should I trust?

Formal Latin begins in 3rd grade and this is where grammar as you may be familiar with it picks up.

Latin is classified as a regular language, arguably the most regular, meaning it’s highly structured and therefore easier to teach grammatical principles–parts of speech, sentence formation, etc.

  • We teach all 7 liberal arts. In the Trivium (Grammar, Logic & Rhetoric) along with the Quadrivium (Arithmetic, Music, Geometry & Astronomy).

Other Misc. Questions

  • We have many volunteer opportunities. All volunteers must pass a background check.

  • PCA takes security very seriously. We have a series of security processes for check-in, check-out, visitor management, and more.

  • The entire process from application to acceptance takes a minimum of two-weeks.
